Winter Sensory Bin for the Win!

Well, its been a while since I last posted, but I'm back!! I am loving Kindergarten.  We are all things winter in my room!! I love teaching winter units, and fall units, and spring units, well I like them all pretty much!  I am a thematic unit teaching kind of gal!  Anyway, I wanted to hop on for a second and tell you about my winter sensory bin.  I have a sandbox, that I don't use for sand....SAY WHAT?!? Yes, I love sand sensory bins, but I have found some less messy alternatives than sand.  This sensory table has the following items: plastic crystal beads( Hobby Lobby), white and blue pom poms( Hobby Lobby), felt letters (Target Dollar Spot), mini erasers(Target Dollar Spot), and felt snow( I cut it up).  I also have some letter sound mitten puzzles in there as well.  There are so many ways to do a sensory bin.  Our Kindergarten team has incorporated DAP (Developmentally Appropriate Practice) into our classrooms.  There are so many kiddos that need the exposure of a sensory bins.

My sand table is like this one:

Five for Friday! Valentine's Day Finds!

[fiveforfriday2_thumb3_thumb3_thumb3_%255B5%255D.jpg]

I cannot tell you how much I LOVE the Dollar Tree!  I am always amazed at what I find when I shop there.  I went to do some last minute Valentine's Day shopping there today, and absolutely loved what I found.  My 3 and 4 year go to the same in home daycare.  I am that mommy that just loves doing little things for the kids that go there and their teacher.  I know how much I appreciate parent donations in my classroom, so I like to spread the L-O-V-E!  Anyway, lets get onto what I found!

Drum roll please!!!
 #1 Jumping Frogs
 #2 Mini Play dough Tubs
#3 Ninja Turtle Gummies

These were just perfect for my daycare!  The jumping frogs were 6/$1, the Play Dough was a pack of 8 for a dollar, and the Gummies were a package of 15 for a dollar!  I also bought goody bags that were 40/$1.  That is a TOTAL of $4 folks!  I am supper excited!

I really feel like I could use the jumping frogs in my Third Grade classroom for a measurement activity.  Be on the look out soon for that post! :)

I also have a Valentines Word Problem FREEBIE in my TPT store for all of my Kinder peeps!

Arctic Animals Research

Divider 1

Well, Christmas is coming to a close and my mind suddenly goes to my January units!! This year I am in Third Grade.  There are so many options to do during this time of year!  I love to teach using thematic units.  Integrating literacy, math science, and social studies is so much fun!  My kids are working on writing research papers, so what do we research? Arctic animals!!  I use Google Classroom a lot in my classroom.  I chose a few websites to the student to look through and linked them in Google Classroom.  National Geographic for Kids has a wonderful website.  The kids really enjoyed the polar bear cam.  Click HERE to view the web page.

I created a graphic organizer so that the students could write down facts while researching polar bears.

We then talked about how to write a research paragraph and what they looked like. I showed the kids different paragraphs from books so that the kids could really see and understand how to write their paragraph.

Below is the final product of one of my student's paragraph.  They had so much fun!
