Play Doh Recipe and Activities

Wow! What a crazy time we are living in!  We are completely online here in Arkansas.  It is different trying to teach from home, but I am thankful that I can.  My boys are currently 7, 6 and 2 months so we are all kinds of busy doing schoolwork and changing diapers!  I am thankful that I can get the extra time with all three of my boys though.  Well, as a stay at home teacher/momma I have implemented my own activities for my boys.  While the oldest two are in First and Second grade, Play Doh is still a "fun thing" for them.  I am going to put a learning twist to it.  Here is the recipe I used to make my own Play Doh:

1 Cup of Flour
1 Cup of Water
2 tsp. cream of tarter
1/3 cup of salt
1 tbs. of Vegetable Oil
Food Coloring

Mix all ingredients together over low/medium heat.  It will start to thicken, then lay on parchment or wax paper to cool off.

My boys wanted blue and green Play Doh.

Now for the activities...
1. Place Value with Play Doh
Since I have a First and Second Grader, I made numbers that were 2 and 3 digit.  Place Value is so important in Math.  For my  kinesthetic first grader, using play doh is the BEST! I just made simple number cards for them to "create" the number using playdoh as shown below.

2. Geometry with Play Doh

3. Greater/Less than with Play Doh
